The second brew on Labor Day was this CIS of the Russian variety. (I think you notice the theme of the day.) Since most of the Labor Day details were covered in the previous post for the first brew, Meowski – The Russian Cat, let’s get right to the recipe of CIS.
Grains & LME
12 lb – 2 Row
1.5 lb – Crystal 90°
1 lb – Roasted Barley
0.75 lb – Chocolate Malt
3 lb – Dark LME (Added at 15 minutes)
Hops
1 oz – Columbus @ 60 minutes
1 oz – Challenger @ 45 minutes
1 oz – East Kent Goldings @ 15 minutes
Adjuncts
1 oz – Licorice Root @ 30 minutes
2 oz – Bittersweet Bakers Chocolate @ 20 minutes
Yeast
Mangrove Jacks New World Strong Ale – M42 (primary)
Fermentis SafBrew HA-18 (secondary)
Projected Analysis
OG – 1.090
FG – 1.023
Color – 32.55 SRM
ABV – 9%
Bitterness – 82.7 IBU
Due to the business of life, the beer is still in primary and at 1.020 measured using the Tilt Pro. (Apparently I neglected to change the name of the beer from the last big boy.) WCRIS finished at this same reading before adding the HA-18 which dropped it to 1.010. Thinking this should happen again here to have another good 10% ABV beer.
CIS & Not WCRIS
This coming Saturday is the AHA Learn to Homebrew Day. The Fieldpointe team will be at Littleport Brewery of Racine demonstrating a propane homebrew system. Owner Mark of Littleport will be brewing on his electric system. This should be a fun educational day. Cheers to Homebrew!
When was Labor Day? Last week? Last month? Longer? Based upon the length of time that has passed and the metaphor, “Time flies when you are having fun.” the Fieldpointe Brew Crew must have been enjoying life beyond belief – especially in getting at this post. Loooong overdue.
Speaking of Brew Crew, our very own Milwaukee Brewers capped off their best regular season ever at 103 wins and took the crown last evening. We (Fieldpointe’s Finest and the state of WI) are ecstatic over this major achievement as it has been a long time ‘brewing’. This ball team worked hard and with determination all season long. Their slogan “Win Our Way” is now “Won Our Way” as a result. Congratulations to the Milwaukee Brewers – the 2026 World Series Champion!
Of course I don’t remember much regarding the details from Labor Day since it was a good while ago but I do recall that the weather cooperated, the Dorothy Doors were open and Supervisor Mark was working his magic at the grill.
Meowski was the first of a double brew day. It was Labor Day after all. (The second I’ll put in the next post.) The reason for this was for the fact that I was enjoying using my time and effort in preparation for the new school year. The intention was to brew this a day or two before classes began but I ‘struck out’ on getting it done. Supervisor Mark was up before the chickens tending the grill so having me show some hours earlier than norm didn’t upset the ‘barrel’ cart.
As I understand it, Meowski is one of the first beers brewed by the now Waubesa Shores Brewing Club back in its founding days before fancy naming and logos were the thing.
Meowski is classified as a Blonde Ale with an ABV near 5% and low to moderate bitterness. I am a big fan of Sierra Nevada’s Pale Ale and am thinking this will be a level or two below this – easy drinking for those warm summer days…. A-hem. Well, Fall here has been uncharacteristically warm. Today I finally was able to get on the bike and pedal 24.8 miles in shorts and a T. Today is October 29. I’ve seen snowflakes in the air at this time of the season in years past. Not complaining. Actually is nice but that also means that the lawn mower is getting some OT which also means so is the guy using it.
Meowski is currently in the keg at Fieldpointe South awaiting keezer space at Fieldpointe North. There is some work that needs to be done here. I shall get at it.
